F-111  Step #1 Fuselage Module

    Next Step #2

Building the 1/4 inch Solid Balsa Fuselage

Use restickable glue stick, fix the fuselage paper template to 1/4 balsa. Recess a 1/16 Cut out for the timer. You can mark a razor at 1/16 using masking tape, it will make it easier to score the area to be removed.

Building the Laminated Balsa Fuselage

Use restickable glue stick, fix the fuselage paper template to 1/16 balsa. Cut out the hole for the timer. Use a slow drying glue like epoxy to laminate the 1/16 fuse to 1/8 balsa. Weight down and keep flat while drying. Often white glues can cause the laminate to banana bend. Epoxy does not seems to do this.

Shorter Navy nose section - adjust fuselage to your liking.

Top is 1/4 fuse / Bottom is 2-piece fuse

.
When dry cut out the fuselage. Take care to hold the razor at 90 deg.

Fit the Center Pin

Drill a pilot hole for the 3/64 center pin. Glue in the Center Pin. Fit the 1/32 ply cap. This cap also strengthens the fuselage. Glue in the pin cap.

Sand the corners round except where the center plate and stab are attached. Sand to fit canopy. Do Not glue on canopy until center plates are glued on. Cover with printer tissue or paint to your liking.
